How to beat the Corpser

Last updated: · By Ash Vector Desk

To beat the Corpser in Gears of War: E-Day, don't trade fire with it. Stand near a support pillar, let it commit to its lunge, then dodge so it slams the pillar; falling debris damages it and opens a punish window. The first fight ends with a roof collapse; the later rematch is a ranged fight.

Where are the Corpser fights?

The first Corpser fight is in Act 3 Chapter 2, Enemy Lines, in the tunnels toward Cooper Station. Bait lunges into support pillars and save heavy ammo, since the pillars do the damage. The rematch is later in the campaign. Keep distance, dodge before its long reloads and punish then, and spend heavy ammo as the only damage source.

What does the Corpser fight look like?

No health bar is visible in the first fight, and damage comes from pillar baits and debris phases. Its weakness is its own lunge into support pillars. It resists head-on fire while it advances, and adds screen it. The adds are Wretches and Tickers. The finale is a roof collapse.

How do I beat the first fight, step by step?

Stand beside a support pillar and let the Corpser target you. Dodge or slide clear at the last moment so the pillar takes the hit, then unload while debris leaves it exposed. Clear Wretch and Ticker adds between lunges. Stay mobile and let the roof collapse finish it. On harder difficulties the recovery windows are shorter, so dodge later.

  1. Stand beside a support pillar and let the Corpser target you.
  2. Watch the telegraph. When it commits to the lunge, dodge or slide clear at the last moment; the pillar takes the hit.
  3. Falling debris damages it and leaves it briefly exposed. Unload during that recovery window instead of repositioning.
  4. Between lunges it advances behind a screen of Wretch and Ticker adds. Clear them so they can't swarm you mid-bait.
  5. In the final phase the arena shifts. Stay mobile, keep the pillar rhythm, and let the roof collapse finish it.

E-Day's slide-dodge and free jumping make this loop forgiving on Normal. On harder difficulties the recovery windows are shorter, so commit to the dodge later, not earlier.

What are the two Corpser arenas like?

The first encounter splits into two rooms. In the sewer room, shoot the glowing face when the legs part and shelter behind a pillar from shockwaves until it digs down. Climb rubble, the staircase, and upper platforms next. In the circular chamber, pillars it breaks and weapons on the face hurt it, and three pillars down trigger the ceiling collapse.

The first Corpser encounter is split across two rooms. You reach it after crossing the sinkhole and heading into the storm sewers, where the Corpser that destroyed the airfields ambushes Bravo Squad.

Which weapons are in the pillar chamber?

You carry a Troika to fire at the exposed face as it surfaces. A Heavy Boomshot and a Lancer refill sit along the perimeter wall in two spots, for a face shot right before it charges a pillar. The Gut-Puncher is a loadout weapon to finish a round if Boomshot ammo runs out.

Each pillar charge triggers a blue flash and removes a chunk of its health bar. Step away right after, because the support collapses where you were standing. When it burrows, stop shooting the floor and watch for the leg strikes.

What about Tickers during the fight?

e-day.wiki recommends kicking Tickers away with the melee input (B on Xbox) and using pillars as cover against the ground smash; watch for Juvie reinforcements while you line up the next pillar bait.

Which achievement does it unlock?

Defeating this Corpser unlocks "Get Back You Eight-legged Freak". The Enemy Lines chapter also holds six collectibles, including Hard Cases in the subway lobby and on an upper balcony, so search Cooper Station before moving on.

How do I beat the rematch?

Keep your distance, because the rematch rewards ranged pressure over pillar play. The Corpser telegraphs heavy attacks with long recovery animations. Dodge before them, then attack during the reload, not after the hit lands. Spend heavy weapons such as the Torque Bow or Gut-Puncher in those windows.

What kills the adds fastest?

Explosives. A Gut-Puncher round handles Wretch clusters, and killing Tickers with their own explosive counts toward the "Right in the Ticker" achievement.

Is there anything missable in this chapter?

Yes. "Take the Express" is a secondary objective in the same chapter (Act 3 Ch 2) and one of four missable secondary objectives for the Side Piece achievement. Do it before triggering the boss arena; chapter select can recover it after the credits.

How does the Corpser compare to the other bosses?

It is the campaign's "learn the arena" boss: environmental damage, adds and telegraphed lunges. The Brumak fights are about weak points and armor, while final boss Vraahk combines cover pressure, charges and repositioning.
